What the job actually involves

A e-commerce mailer box carries obligations as well as a brand. Ingredient statements, batch coding, origin marking and, in some categories, braille all have to fit the same printed surface. Planning them at the die line stage is far cheaper than repositioning them later.

Work usually begins with three numbers: the dimensions of the product, the run length, and the date the filling line needs stock. Everything else — board grade, closure style, finishing — follows from those, and changing any one of them changes the others.

Materials and board grades

For a e-commerce mailer box the practical range runs from folding boxboard for light retail work to microflute where compression strength matters. Recycled grades cost less and carry a lower footprint; virgin fibre holds a whiter surface and a crisper crease. Neither is automatically the right answer.

Caliper is chosen against the crease, not the other way round. A board that is too heavy for the score line cracks along the fold, and no amount of finishing hides it.

Printing and finishing

Offset printing carries the base image. Beyond it, debossing and kraft board are the two finishes most often specified for this kind of pack, with gold metallization used where a tactile difference is worth the extra pass.

Every finishing pass adds a handling step and a small yield loss, so the specification is worth reviewing against what a customer will notice at arm's length in a shop.

What matters for coffee roasters

Buyers in this category tend to be working to a launch date and a shelf plan at the same time. The pack has to arrive flat-packed, glue cleanly on the filling line, and open without a fight at the point of sale.

Where a range shares a structure across several variants, keeping one die line and changing only the print reduces both tooling cost and the risk of a mismatch between siblings on a shelf.

Supplying Turkey

Lead times to Turkey depend more on finishing than on print. A plain carton can leave within days of artwork approval; the same carton with foil and a spot varnish adds passes, and each pass has a queue.

Sending a physical mock-up before the production run is almost always worth the delay it costs. Colour on a screen and colour on board are different things, and a mock-up settles the argument in an afternoon.

Common questions

What is the minimum order? It depends on the tooling. Once a cutting die exists, short repeat runs become economical; the first run carries the tooling.

Can you match an existing pack? Usually. Send a sample and we will measure it, identify the board and reproduce the die line.
